Happy 2k11!

Monday, January 10th, 2011

Happy New Year to you all, I hope your holidays were amazing and your vacations just long enough that you were all excited to start back to reality. We here at Open Air have spent our holiday time planning amazing things for this coming year, investigating new technology and ways to make our events even more fun for our clients! Stay tuned and we’ll talk about some really cool new stuff in the next few weeks.

For today’s post however, I want to talk about something that’s been in the news a lot lately. No, not the sucky economy or the horrible cuts to public education (although I’m sure we’ll get to that!), but something slightly more… creepy. It seems that everywhere you turn these days someone is talking about the End Of The World! From birds falling from the sky to fish washing up on shore, it’s weird right? So to celebrate the weirdness, I humbly give you my Top Ten End Of The World movies for your consideration!! What a fun series this would be! Keep in mind that these winter months here in beautiful LA are just perfect for movies outside! Early start times and hot popcorn make a perfect night for you and your group! Add some “End Is Near” handwritten signs as promo material and you are all set! So without wasting any more precious time, here are my Top Ten: “Planet of the Apes” (1968 version please), “War Games”, “Terminator” (1 and/or 2!), “I am Legend”, “The Day After Tomorrow”, “Night of the Comet”, “Omega Man”, “Dr. Strangelove, or How I Stopped Worrying and Love the Bomb”, “12 Monkeys”, “Dawn of the Dead”. (note: “The Road Warrior” would totally have made this list if not for Mel’s unfortunate anti-semitic outbursts)

So there it is people, get out there and have some fun! And please let us know if you would like to talk about a fantastic series or movie night for 2011!

Appropriate For All Ages

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

I have a little child with a big vocabulary. His way of asking about movies in our collection is “Is this appropriate?”. It’s awesome, especially since we have a huge movie library here with every horror movie and every kid’s movie you can imagine. It got me thinking about those special movies that really are appropriate for the whole family. We are gearing up for Spring and Summer events, which always includes lots of school events and fund raisers, so I wanted to do a quick list of films that will get everyone excited about your movie night. Here’s a Top Ten Appropriate list for you to consider: “Up”, “E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial”, “Finding Nemo”, “Back to the Future”, “The Princess Bride”, “Goonies”, “Madagascar”, “Shrek”, “Meet the Robinsons”, “Everyone’s Hero”. Why not let the kids vote?! Contact us today for more ideas or to schedule your Outdoor Movie Night, we have some great school specials and would love to work with you!

4 year old’s Top Six

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

“Monsters vs. Aliens”, “Tale of Desperaux”, “Hotel for Dogs”, “Bolt”, “Space Chimps”, “Cars”, “That other movie with the mouse and the small children. And there are bad guys and a fighting part I can’t tell you about because they do what we don’t do…guns”.

This the response I get when I ask my 4 year old to name his favorite movies. He loves watching movies and has excellent taste! Whenever someone is planning a family movie event and asks me for suggestions, I’ll get his current list. He always picks some great ones! If you are planning an event like this, may I suggest asking the kids in your life for their suggestions? I think you’ll be amazed!
